Characters!

Since this blog isn't character-centric, I thought I'd list the characters you'll see appearing on this blog.  Just so you have a little heads up.  Also, I needed another tab up there besides my Pull List, and I'm having fun with Blogger's tab feature.

So here's my favorite characters, in no particular order:
  • Martian Manhunter
  • Two-Face
  • Booster Gold
  • Blue Beetle (Ted Kord)
  • Adam Strange
  • Hal Jordan and other Green Lanterns (yes, even Guy Gardner)
  • Batman
  • Harley Quinn
  • The Phantom Stranger
  • Fire and Ice
  • Just about any other Justice League International character
  • The Atom
  • Just about any Bat-villain
  • Rip Hunter
  • The Flash (Barry Allen)
  • Huntress
  • The Metal Men and Dr. Magnus
  • The Rocketeer (okay, I know, not DC, but still)
  • Vril Dox
  • Magnus, Robot Fighter (also not DC)
  • The Spirit
Okay, I lied.  They're definitely in some kind of order.

My Pull List

While in the midsts of some heavy-duty Two-Face analysis, I hit a little block and decided I couldn't post on time.  So I figured I'd post my pull list, since I had meant to get around to doing that sooner or later...

Here we go.  Here's what I'm currently reading:

  • Booster Gold (I'm missing Jurgens, but at least it reunites the JLI writing crew.  Not one for change.  Different = bad has always been my motto.  But I got a big soft spot for the "greatest hero you've never heard of" and his little robot sidekick.)
  • Green Lantern (always fun, colorful, and entertaining)
  • Green Lantern Corps (see above)
  • Brightest Day (just can't resist not knowing what's going on with this.  Besides, there are Martians in it.  And squirrels.)
  • Justice League: Generation Lost (hoping Giffen and DeMatteis get switched to this book, along with Kevin Maguire.  And that a million dollars falls out of the sky.)
  • Batgirl (so much fun.  I love this book!)
  • R.E.B.E.L.S. (Vril Dox is really growing on me, that sneaky little out-for-himself-Mr.-Always-Has-a-Plan.  Plus Lobo shows up, and that always means a good time.)
  • DC Universe Legacies (meh.  Adam Strange is in it next month, so there's something, I guess.)
  • Batman: Streets of Gotham (Two-Face backup story, obligated to buy.  Plus, the more I read Batman, the more I'm liking his secondary characters more than him.)
  • Time Masters: Vanishing Point (Booster Gold, Rip Hunter, Hal Jordan.  Too much awesome hair for my brain to handle.  Plus, seeing young Rip = me saying "awwww, how cute!" outloud to the book.  A lot.  This is why I have to comics read alone.)
  • Gotham City Sirens  (I liked it better in the beginning, but it's okay.)
  • Detective Comics (probably going to scratch this one soon.  It's getting hard to comprehend.)
  • Batman (scratched because it devolved into a Batman: R.I.P. missing chapter series.  Plus it had Grant Morrison's name on it.  Yes, I am that petty.  Besides, with the new series coming up, there's too many Batman books out there for me to afford, so I think I'm going to have to drop Batman all together, rather than go in half-way.)
  • Green Lantern: Emerald Warriors (Guy Gardner never ceases to entertain me.)

We Interrupt Our Regularly Scheduled Programming...

I saw this meme over at Sea-of-Green's blog, Hoosier Journal of Inanity, and she inspired me to fill this out.  I like surveys, and I'm not prepared to write another entry in my Silver Age J'onn J'onzz appreciate list.

So here goes.

1. What time did you get up this morning?
10:32, after hitting the snooze three times.

2. Diamonds or pearls?
Pearls.  Though I don't wear jewelry much.

3. What was the last film you saw at the cinema?
Umm....wow, I can't even remember.  The second Night at the Museum movie, I think.  I really don't go to the theater much.  DVDs, Turner Classic Movies, and TV are usually what I rely on.  And like Sea, I haven't seen Avater yet, either.  I need to.

4. What is your favorite TV show?
Lost.

5. What do you usually have for breakfast?
An English muffin.

Fish.

8. What is your favorite album at the moment?
I don't really listen to albums.  But I've been listening to the Children of Dune soundtrack a lot lately.

9. What kind of car do you drive?
A silver Olds named "The Star Destroyer."  Yes, I named my car.  After Star Wars.

Hypocrisy.

12. Favorite item of clothing?
Um...fun socks.

13. If you could go anywhere in the world on vacation, where would you go?
Italy.

I don't care about brands.  As long as it's comfortable and decent-looking.

15. Where would you retire to?
I'm staying here, wherever here is.

16. What was your most memorable birthday?
My 16th surprise birthday party.

17. Favorite sport to watch?
Figure skating, or anything at the Winter Olympics.  (Hello, biathlon!)  Summer--baseball, occasionally.  Everyone keeps switching teams and that makes me lose interest.

18. Furthest place you are sending this?
I have no idea.

19. Person you expect to send it back first?
No idea.

20. When is your birthday?
December 12th.  The same as Frank Sinatra, John Jay, and Bob Barker.

NIGHT.

22. What is your shoe size?
5.  Make shoe shopping rather difficult.  But I don't care much about shoes anyway.

23. Pets?
A nutty little Brussels Griffon named Fiona, an angry Chow Chow named Peaches, a rabbit (just one, though I used to have 48 at one point), my horse just passed away last week, sadly, and a pitbull named Lucky that kind of hangs around here.

24. Any new and exciting news you 'd like to share with us?
Let me see....umm...nope.

25. What did you want to be when you were little?
An artist, and later, a writer.

26. How are you today?
Okay.  Tired.

I shall remain anonymous.

Brave and the Bold in the background.

32. What was the last thing you ate?
Dango (rice dumplings) that I just made.  Rather interesting.

33. Do you wish on stars?
No.  But I try to keep recognizing the constellations so I stay fresh.

34. If you were a crayon, what color would you be?
Green Blue, becuase it was my favorite, and Crayola RETIRED it when I was a child.

35. How is the weather right now?
Cold.  I wish there was more snow.  :(

36. What is your natural hair color?
Brown, never dyed.

37. Favorite soft drink?
Dr. Brown's Black Cherry Soda, though I hardly drink soda.

38. Favorite restaurant?
Does McDonald's count?

I rarely wear nail polish, but anything mauvey, berryish or purple, I guess.

40. What was your favorite toy as a child?
My Raggedy Ann doll.

Tea!  I'm not supposed to have caffeine, and I can't stand the taste of coffee anyway.

45. Do you want your friends to email you back?
Sure.

46. When was the last time you cried?
I can't remember, but it probably had to do with work.

47. What is under your bed?
Comics, believe it or not.  And dust bunnies.  And books.

48. What did you do last night?
Fell asleep on the couch, woke up, and stayed up to watch Craig Ferguson while I recorded my comics for reselling.

49. What are you afraid of?
Enclosed places and not being able to breathe.

50. Salty or sweet?
Either.  I put like a tablespoon of salt on my food.  Yum.

51. How many keys on your key ring?
Two on one, two on the other.  That's kind of a boring question.

52. How many years at your current job?
This'll be my sixth year...wow.

53. Favorite day of the week?
Saturday.

54. How many towns have you lived in?
One.

55. Do you make friends easily?
Not at all.

A Comics Blog? Really?

Okay, so you here you are. Reading The Inagural Comics Make Me Happy post.

I had a hard time picking a name for this blog because:

a.) I stink at giving things titles.

b.) I'm indecisive.

and,

c.) I don't want to be pigeonholed and have to stick to a certain theme.

There were quite a few names I was batting around. Including Comics Intellectual and Comics Philosopher.  After reading an over-scholarly article that a commenter posted on The Idol-Head of Diabolu, I decided against the former and the latter.  I'd rather like to avoid the over-thinking that occasionally seeps into popular culture.  That being said, I hold a degree in Philosophy, I like analysis, and the late-but-much-beloved Absorbascon's analytics often left me speechless.  So I'm hoping to engage in some insightful-but-not-pompous-insights.

The ever-creative One True GL came up with about a dozen or so names for my nascent blog, one of which I might just adopt later down the road when I've developed more of an identity.  I don't know.  (Refer to letter b.)

So, anyway, welcome to my blog.  I hope we'll have fun.  Comics are my escapism of choice.  (Or, as Sally P would say, drug of choice!)  I think comics should be fun, they should be enjoyable, and at the same time, should tell great stories.  That's all I really ask from my comics.  And, yes, I really do talk to my comics on occasion.
