Martian Manhunter redesign by Joel Ojeda

I found this somewhat randomly online.  Some think the Martian Manhunter's costume is begging to be redesigned.  And yet I never seem to find a redesign I fully like.  This is an interesting take, especially noteworthy becuase it jettisons the red chest straps in a pretty unique way.  I could actually get used to parts of this design.  It's hard to tell because it's rather dark, but it looks like his cape is blue on the outside, and lined with red, which I find rather interesting as well.  I could do without J'onn's tribal tattoos and claw-like fingernails, but on the whole, it's one of the few redesigns that I almost like.

What do you all think?

He's trying way too hard. Virtually any costume design heavy on red and black, especially contrary to the character's regular colors, fairly reeks of desperation. Every prefabricated "bad ass" shows up in either all black or the combination, and then proceeds to totally overdo it. Take Snake-Eyes from G.I. Joe. He started out in gray, and his action figure was really scrawny, with dorky looking goggles. Later, he switched to all black, developed that knight visor thing, and came packed with a freakin' timber wolf. Clearly Hasbro was trying really hard, but it worked out because he was balanced out by his disfiguring accident, inability to speak, mild manner, and devotion to friendship. A Martian Manhunter with claws and tribal can't be course corrected, no matter his attitude, since the implication of Lime Wolverine is too strong.

It isn't as true with villains, but still pretty common. It's like how anyone who stands up for Darth Maul is immediately pegged as a loser Prequel apologist, because real men want to be Boba Fett (but I'll be a hipster and name drop Dengar...)

I do like how he continued the x-strap motif down to his legs. Which is what I liked about Black Lantern Martian Manhunter's costume. Then again, the cross-straps are such an iconic part of his costume, sooo... I don't like the darkness (and I can't stand the claws), but I like the one shoulder strap and the pants. But, yeah, J'onn's impossible to redesign.

And Bosk is SOOO much better than Dengar, as Robot Chicken proved.

Uh....the actual costume itself isn't horrible, but egad...J'onn looks like a big lizard!
